On September 26, the Ministry of Commerce announced an anti-discrimination investigation into Canada’s restrictive measures against China. The measures include: 1) a 100% surtax on all electric vehicles made in China starting October 1, 2024; 2) a 25% surtax on imported steel and aluminum products from China starting October 15, 2024; and 3) restrictions on the countries eligible for Canadian clean energy vehicle subsidies. This investigation aims to protect the legitimate rights and interests of China's electric vehicle and critical mineral manufacturers.
