China: coordinate energy saving, carbon reduction and recycling in key areas

On February 24th, the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on Coordinating Energy Saving, Carbon Reduction and Recycling to Accelerate the Update and Transformation of Equipment and Products in Key Areas". The guidance mentions that the market share of high-efficient and energy-saving products & equipment should be further increased by 2025 through coordinating and promoting the renewal, transformation and recycling of products and equipment in key areas. The first batch of products and equipment focused on are boilers, motors, power transformers, refrigeration, lighting, and household appliances. Specifically, the average operating thermal efficiency of industrial boilers and power plant boilers should increase by 5% and 0.5% respectively compared with 2021. The proportion of efficient and energy-saving motors and power transformers in operation should increase by more than 5% and 10% respectively compared with 2021. The proportion of efficient and energy-saving products in major household appliances should increase by 10% compared with 2021. The proportion of high-efficiency and energy-saving products in commercial refrigeration equipment, household refrigeration equipment, and general lighting equipment should reach 40%, 60%, and 50% respectively. With the policy support, the upgrading and renovation of products and equipment in key areas in China will accelerate. The elimination of outdated and inefficient products will stimulate the demand for a new batch of products and equipment. At the same time, the recycling and remanufacturing of old products and equipment will also be a super track.
