After the booming of the global semiconductor industry in the first two years, global semiconductor industry takes a sudden turn for the worse this year, from a comprehensive slug shortage to a structural shortage, and the demand presents a structural differentiation situation.
There has been a cut in orders for consumer electronics, including smartphones, PC, tablets, etc., and the demand for MCU and analog chips is weakening. TSMC, the global foundry leader has suffered cutback in orders from its three biggest customers. AMD and NVIDIA have delayed or reduced orders, and many large overseas manufacturers are also reported to low their product quotations.
Gartner, a market research firm, said that consumer electronics is an important part of the downstream of semiconductors. The decline in relevant demand will gradually lead the semiconductor industry to enter a weak cycle. In 2022, the global semiconductor revenue may grow 13.6%, down 26.3% year-on-year.
However, with the growing demand for automotive and industrial control, it is still tight for the supply of automotive-grade chips, power devices, semiconductor equipment and materials. Some power semiconductor and equipment-related suppliers said that there are enough orders and good prospects.
