After the MEDA's 50,000 solar water pumps tender under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Yojna's component-B, now Maharashtra revealed its new target of installing solar water pumps. According to the Maharashtra government, these are the important parts of ongoing efforts to promote innovation in the solar pump in the agriculture sector.
Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, announced on Wednesday that the state's government has set a goal of building two lakh solar agricultural pumps. A review meeting was held at the organization's Mumbai headquarters by Fadnavis, who is also in charge of the Energy Department.
The state government has set a goal of installing two lakh agri solar pumps in the upcoming months, of which one lakh will be installed by the Maharashtra Energy Development Authority (MEDA) and the remaining ones by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), he said in a later interview with reporters.
He stated that the necessary components of this initiative to construct solar agri pumps would be covered by the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM), but he did not specify how many pumps have already been placed in the state.
The state government has also given its approval for a wind energy project at Uran near Mumbai,, according to Fadnavis. “The state government is also taking steps towards agri feeders to be converted on solar energy to benefit farmers,” he said. “I have asked the officials to take efforts to reduce the transmission losses.”
Apart from this, there are other states also working towards making agriculture solarize. Recently, MEDA invited bids to install 50000 solar water pumps under component B of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Yojna. These pumps will be grid-connected submersible of 3, 5, and 7.5 horsepower (HP).
Additionally, the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) issued a tender for 9348 Agricultural Pumps solarization (grid-connected) ranging from 2 kW to 150kW under KUSUM Yojna Component C in the state of Kerala.
